In my experience, the "assertiveness" you advise, depending on how far it's taken, can be one of the things that turns people off. The recipient gets to decide whether something's "the next big thing"--not the person trying to position the story as newsworthy. That's the stuff that elicits the bad S word: Spin. The phrase that struck me as not quite what you intended is "Force it viral." Can't do it. Something only goes viral if it takes off organically. If the actual content isn't of value to others, it won't spread.
